The ongoing controversy surrounding the famous Tirupati Laddu has escalated, with Andhra Pradesh former Chief Minister Jagan Mohan Reddy approaching the High Court over allegations made by CM Chandrababu Naidu. The dispute ignited when Naidu claimed that beef tallow was found in the laddu prasadam, prompting calls for an investigation.
Lawyers representing the YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) requested the High Court to appoint a sitting judge or a committee to probe Naidu’s allegations. The bench suggested filing a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) by September 25 to address the claims thoroughly.
The issue gained traction after the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) showcased a lab report from NDDB CALF Ltd, a Gujarat-based livestock laboratory, which allegedly detected animal fat in the ghee used for making the laddus. TDP spokesperson Anam Venkata Ramana Reddy claimed the report confirmed the presence of “beef tallow” and even mentioned lard and fish oil in the samples.
Despite the serious nature of these claims, neither the Andhra Pradesh government nor the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD)—the managing body of the temple—has verified the lab findings. Food Minister Pralhad Joshi has also called for a comprehensive investigation into the allegations.
As the situation unfolds, the opposition YSRCP has firmly denied any wrongdoing, asserting that the accusations are unfounded and politically motivated. The High Court’s decision in the coming days will be crucial in determining the next steps in this heated debate.
