Himachal Pradesh Congress responds to BJP MP’s claims regarding state funds
Himachal Pradesh Congress has issued a strong response to BJP MP Kangana Ranaut’s recent allegations against Sonia Gandhi, demanding that she either substantiate her claims or face legal consequences. Ranaut had claimed that the Congress-ruled Himachal Pradesh government took loans and diverted those funds to Gandhi, rather than utilizing them for state development.
In a press conference, Himachal Pradesh Minister Vikramaditya Singh criticized Ranaut’s comments as an example of “intellectual bankruptcy.” He challenged her to provide evidence of any funds being misappropriated, stating, “There cannot be a bigger foolish statement than saying that funds coming from the Centre or the state’s funds for development are being given to Sonia Gandhi.”
Singh further warned that if Ranaut fails to present proof of her allegations, the Congress party will file a defamation suit against her. “I openly challenge BJP MP Kangana Ranaut to show proof of even ₹1 being diverted or apologize to Congress leader Sonia Gandhi for making such baseless and unwarranted allegations against her,” he added.
Ranaut’s comments were made during a public gathering in Manali, where she claimed that loans taken for disaster relief were redirected to what she called the “Sonia relief fund.” The minister suggested that Ranaut’s frustration over her film “Emergency” being delayed by the censor board may have influenced her statements.
The ongoing exchange highlights the tense political climate in Himachal Pradesh, especially with elections on the horizon. As both parties gear up for the upcoming electoral battle, the controversy surrounding Ranaut’s remarks is likely to continue drawing public attention.
