Badlapur Rape Case: Accused’s Mother Claims Son Killed in ‘Big Conspiracy,’ Demands Investigation

September 24, 2024

Mumbai: The mother of Akshay Shinde, the accused in the Badlapur rape case who was shot dead by Maharashtra Police, has alleged that her son’s death is part of a “big conspiracy.” She has called for a thorough investigation, rejecting the police’s account of the events.

Shinde, who was accused of sexually abusing two young girls, aged four and five, at a school in Badlapur, was killed on Monday evening near the Mumbra Bypass while being transported by police for further questioning.

Mother Alleges Custodial Abuse, Demands Investigation

Speaking to Aajtak, Akshay Shinde’s mother, Alka Shinde, denied the police’s version of the events leading to her son’s death. According to the police, Shinde had snatched a firearm from one of the escorting officers, shot at another officer, and was subsequently killed in retaliatory fire. However, his family claims otherwise.

“My son was killed in a planned conspiracy. The police beat him in custody, and now they have murdered him. We will not accept his body until a full investigation is conducted and those responsible are punished,” Alka Shinde said. She also demanded an inquiry into the role of the school management.

Discrepancies in Police Account

According to the police, Shinde attempted to seize a weapon while being transported in a police vehicle. After injuring an officer, he was shot by another member of the escort team. Shinde was declared dead at Kalwa Civil Hospital shortly afterward.

However, Shinde’s family disputes this narrative. “He was afraid of crossing roads and bursting crackers. How could he manage to snatch a gun and shoot at police officers?” his mother questioned, casting doubt on the official account. Shinde’s uncle also criticized the police, stating that Shinde couldn’t have committed such an act.

Akshay Shinde’s Arrest and Public Outcry

Shinde was arrested on August 17, 2024, in connection with the sexual assault of two young girls at a Badlapur school. The alleged incident took place on August 12 in the school’s toilet, where Shinde worked as a cleaner. The case sparked massive public outrage, with protests erupting in the area.

Initially, the local police were handling the investigation, but after significant public pressure, the Maharashtra government appointed a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to investigate the case. The SIT filed charges against Shinde and members of the school management on September 16, 2024.

Family Demands Justice

The Shinde family remains steadfast in their refusal to accept Akshay’s body until an independent investigation is conducted. They have also alleged that Shinde was forced to write a statement, the contents of which they claim to be unaware.

The controversy surrounding Akshay Shinde’s death has only added fuel to the public’s demand for transparency and accountability in the case, as questions continue to mount over the handling of both the sexual assault investigation and the subsequent shooting.
