Supriya Sule Criticizes PM Modi’s Pune Metro Inaugurations as “Redundant”

NCP leader Supriya Sule sharply criticized the BJP-Shiv Sena-led Maharashtra government following the cancellation of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s scheduled visit to Pune due to heavy rainfall. Sule pointed out that this would have been the sixth time Modi inaugurated the Pune Metro project, questioning the necessity of such a repetitive event.

Sule stated, “The inauguration for which PM Modi was scheduled to visit has already been done five times. It would have been the sixth time.” She also criticized the Maharashtra government for seeking time from a “busy person” like the Prime Minister for what she deemed an unnecessary occasion.

The Prime Minister was expected to flag off the metro line from District Court to Swargate and announce development projects worth ₹22,600 crore. However, heavy rains caused waterlogging at the venue, leading to the postponement. Pune divisional commissioner Chandrakant Pulkundwar confirmed the cancellation, citing the India Meteorological Department’s (IMD) orange alert for safety reasons.

Sule’s comments reflect the growing discontent among opposition parties regarding the management of public events and infrastructure in Maharashtra, adding to the political discourse ahead of upcoming elections.
