New Delhi, October 1, 2024 – Prime Minister Narendra Modi welcomed Jamaican Prime Minister Andrew Holness on Tuesday, expressing optimism about the potential for enhanced bilateral relations between India and Jamaica. During a joint press conference, PM Modi underscored the historic ties that bind the two nations, stating that Holness has been a long-standing friend of India.
“I have had the opportunity to meet him several times, and each time I have felt his commitment to strengthening relations with India. I am confident that his visit will give new energy to our bilateral relations as well as our engagement with the entire Caribbean region,” PM Modi remarked.
Highlighting the essence of India-Jamaica relations, PM Modi introduced the “Four Cs”: Culture, Cricket, Commonwealth, and CARICOM (Caribbean Community). He noted that trade and investment between the two countries are on the rise, with India positioning itself as a reliable and committed development partner in Jamaica’s development journey.
“Through ITEC and ICCR scholarships, we have contributed to the skills development and capacity building of the people of Jamaica,” PM Modi added.
During this official visit, which runs from September 30 to October 3, Holness is making history as the first Prime Minister of Jamaica to visit India. Prior to their meeting, Holness paid tribute to Mahatma Gandhi at Rajghat, reinforcing the cultural bonds between the two nations.
The Jamaican Prime Minister’s visit is seen as a pivotal moment to further solidify the relationship, with both leaders keen on exploring new avenues for collaboration in various sectors.
As India and Jamaica continue to deepen their ties, PM Modi’s remarks highlight the importance of international partnerships and the shared commitment to mutual growth and development.
