PM Modi to Visit Russia for BRICS Summit: Key Agendas

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will travel to Kazan, Russia, to attend the 16th BRICS Summit. The summit will focus on addressing global challenges and strengthening cooperation among member countries.

The BRICS group, initially consisting of Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa, recently expanded to include new members—Iran, Egypt, Ethiopia, and the UAE. This summit will be the first since the group’s expansion.

Key Agendas for India at the BRICS Summit:

  1. Global Cooperation: India sees BRICS as an important platform to promote a multipolar world and address international challenges.
  2. Kazan Declaration: Leaders are expected to adopt the Kazan Declaration, which will shape the future course of BRICS cooperation.
  3. Bilateral Meetings: PM Modi is expected to meet several world leaders, including Chinese President Xi Jinping, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, and Iranian Speaker Masoud Pezeshkian.
  4. India-Russia Talks: A key focus will be the bilateral meeting between PM Modi and Russian President Vladimir Putin. They are expected to discuss the ongoing Ukraine conflict and ways to strengthen economic ties.
  5. Trade Goals: India aims to boost its trade with Russia, targeting $100 billion by 2030. A major meeting in November will further define sector-specific goals to enhance cooperation.
  6. Cultural Collaboration: Strengthening cultural ties and promoting Indian studies and films in Russia will also be discussed.

This visit is crucial for India’s global role and its efforts to enhance diplomatic and economic relations with BRICS members.
