Defence Minister Rajnath Singh Departs for Gangtok to Attend Army Commanders’ Conference

New Delhi [India], October 11 (ANI): Defence Minister Rajnath Singh has left for Gangtok, Sikkim, to participate in the 2024 Army Commanders’ Conference. During his two-day visit, Singh will address the conference and celebrate Vijaya Dashmi with armed forces personnel.

In a message on X, Singh stated, “I shall be reaching Gangtok today on a two-day visit to Sikkim. Looking forward to addressing the Army Commanders’ Conference and also celebrating Vijaya Dashmi with the armed forces personnel.”

This year’s conference is being held close to the Line of Actual Control (LAC), reflecting the ongoing focus on border security. Defence officials noted that this is the first time such a significant meeting of the top Army leadership is being convened near the LAC. Discussions will center on the security situation along the LAC, particularly in Ladakh and Arunachal Pradesh, where India and China have faced recurring stand-offs.

The conference, chaired by Chief of Army Staff Gen Upendra Dwivedi, will also review lessons from global conflicts and assess their implications for the Indian Army. The second phase of the conference is scheduled to take place in New Delhi from October 28-29.

Gen Dwivedi recently remarked that while the border situation with China is stable, it remains abnormal, with trust between the Indian Army and the Chinese People’s Liberation Army (PLA) being affected by the prolonged stand-off.

This meeting marks Gen Dwivedi’s first Army Commanders’ Conference since assuming his position in June and will play a key role in shaping future defence strategies along India’s northern borders.
