Essar Group Chairman Shashikant Ruia Passes Away at 81, Leaving a Transformational Legacy

Shashikant Ruia, the patriarch of the Ruia family and chairman of Essar Group, passed away on November 25, 2024, in Mumbai due to a prolonged illness. A first-generation entrepreneur, Ruia co-founded Essar with his brother Ravi Ruia in 1969. He began his career under the guidance of his father, Nand Kishore Ruia, and established Essar as a global conglomerate spanning steel, energy, telecom, and infrastructure.

Ruia’s contributions revolutionized India’s corporate landscape, earning him recognition as an iconic industrialist. The family described him as a visionary who impacted millions through his business acumen and philanthropy.

His mortal remains will be kept at Ruia House on November 26, from 1 to 3 PM, followed by a funeral procession to the Hindu Worli Crematorium at 4 PM. Ruia is survived by his wife, Manju, and sons, Prashant and Anshuman.

Ruia’s legacy extends beyond business, as he laid a foundation for innovation and community upliftment. His extraordinary contributions will remain a guiding light for future generations.
