GPS Misdirection Leads to Fatal Crash on Collapsed Bridge in Uttar Pradesh

In a heartbreaking incident in Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh, three lives were tragically lost when a car, guided by a GPS system, was directed onto an under-construction bridge that had previously collapsed due to flooding. The victims were traveling from Bareilly to Dataganj when the navigation system failed to account for the damage to the bridge’s front portion, which had been washed away months earlier. Despite the absence of warning signs or barriers, the driver unknowingly drove the car off the damaged section, causing it to plunge into the Ramganga river.

The tragic accident occurred around 9:30 AM on the Khalpur-Dataganj road, and the victims died instantly upon impact. The weather conditions, including dense fog, further exacerbated the situation, reducing visibility for the driver and making it impossible to identify the hazard ahead. Authorities later identified two of the victims, Amit and Vivek, residents of Imadpur in Farukkabad, while the third victim is still under investigation.

The lack of updates in the GPS system about the bridge’s condition has sparked outrage, with local authorities acknowledging that the previous flood damage had not been reflected in the mapping software. Emergency teams were promptly dispatched to recover the bodies from the river. Police have launched an investigation into the cause of the accident and are also addressing concerns about the inadequate safety measures around the damaged bridge.
