Ladki Bahin Yojana: Maharashtra Resumes Rs 1,500 Monthly Transfers Post-Election Code Suspension

The Maharashtra government has resumed the disbursement of Rs 1,500 monthly installments to women under the Mukhyamantri Majhi Ladki Bahin Yojana, a scheme aimed at empowering women across the state. The payments, which were temporarily halted due to the enforcement of the model code of conduct during the recent state assembly elections, recommenced on Tuesday, benefiting 2.34 crore women statewide.

Disbursement Resumes for Women’s Welfare

Women and Child Development Minister Aditi Tatkare confirmed that the phased disbursement process has begun, with 12.87 lakh women already receiving funds in the first installment. Tatkare emphasized the importance of this initiative in uplifting women financially, contributing to economic stability in households.

The scheme, which was launched in 2024, provides monthly financial aid of Rs 1,500 to eligible women. Initially framed to address financial insecurity, the initiative has gained traction for fostering women’s empowerment across rural and urban areas of Maharashtra.

Election Impact and Scheme’s Political Significance

The Ladki Bahin Yojana played a crucial role in the electoral success of the BJP-led Mahayuti coalition during the recent state elections. The program’s widespread reach and financial assistance have bolstered the coalition’s popularity, reinforcing the leadership of Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, alongside Deputy Chief Ministers Eknath Shinde and Ajit Pawar.

Tatkare highlighted that under their leadership, the scheme’s implementation will continue smoothly, ensuring timely payments and expanding its reach to unregistered women.

Possible Increase in Assistance to Rs 2,100

Minister Tatkare also addressed the proposal to increase the monthly assistance to Rs 2,100, a promise made by Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde during the election campaign. She mentioned that the final decision regarding this increment would be taken by Chief Minister Fadnavis during the upcoming state budget session.

Future Expansion and Monitoring

The disbursement process is expected to accelerate as more women complete the Aadhaar linkage necessary for registration. The government aims to enhance the transparency of the scheme by addressing complaints and reviewing feedback to ensure that the financial aid reaches the intended beneficiaries without discrepancies.

As Maharashtra continues to strengthen welfare initiatives, the Ladki Bahin Yojana stands out as a significant step toward financial empowerment and gender equality.
