Man ‘Returns from the Dead’ in Ahmedabad, Leaving Family and Police with a Mystery Body

Ahmedabad witnessed an extraordinary twist in a missing person case that has baffled police and locals alike. Brijesh Suthar, a 43-year-old share broker from Vijapur, returned home five days after his family had cremated what they believed was his body. The bizarre incident has left a haunting question: Whose body was it?

The Disappearance

Suthar, reeling under financial stress and reportedly harassed by a moneylender, went missing on October 27 from Hanspura in Ahmedabad. Concerned, his mother, Ansuya Suthar, filed a missing person complaint with the Naroda police on November 6.

During this time, an unidentified, mutilated body was discovered floating in the Sabarmati River. With no documents or identifying features, the Sabarmati Riverfront (West) Police registered a case of accidental death and began an investigation.

Mistaken Identity

Suthar’s brother-in-law and family were called to identify the body. Believing it to be Brijesh, the grieving family performed cremation rites on November 10 and held a condolence meet, or besna, on November 14. Relatives, friends, and well-wishers gathered to pay their respects, unaware of the shocking turn of events awaiting them.

The Shocking Return

On the morning of November 15, Brijesh Suthar walked into his family home in Vijapur. His unexpected return left his mother and family members in tears of relief and confusion. They immediately informed Naroda police, leading to the closure of the missing person’s case.

A New Mystery

While the family rejoiced, a bigger puzzle emerged: Whose body was cremated? The Sabarmati Riverfront Police now face the daunting task of identifying the unknown deceased. Inspector M.V. Patel of the Sabarmati Riverfront (West) Police has yet to comment on the matter, leaving the case shrouded in uncertainty.

The Legal Conundrum

This mix-up raises critical questions about identification protocols and the handling of unidentified bodies. The police now need to trace the origin of the unidentified body and determine whether foul play was involved. Forensic tests and missing person databases may hold the key to resolving this chilling mystery.

As Ahmedabad grapples with this strange case, one thing is clear: sometimes, reality is stranger than fiction. Brijesh Suthar’s return has brought joy to one family but has left an enigma for the city’s authorities.
