Tensions flared in Dharavi, Mumbai, on September 21, 2024, as locals protested against the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation’s (BMC) attempt to demolish a portion of the Mehboob-E-Subhani mosque, deemed illegal by officials. A large crowd gathered on 90 Feet Road, blocking BMC personnel from proceeding with the demolition. Protesters also staged a sit-in outside the Dharavi police station, demanding a halt to the action. A heavy police force has been deployed to maintain peace. Negotiations between mosque representatives, BMC officials, and police are ongoing, with the situation remaining tense but under control.
