In a shocking incident, a Delhi man’s quest for romance turned into a harrowing encounter with a scam operation at Kaushambi metro station. On October 21, the man was invited for a date via WhatsApp and directed to the Tiger Cafe in Kaushambi Hotel. Sensing something unusual, he shared his live location with a friend and noted the cafe’s lack of an online footprint and signage, adding to his unease.
His suspicions quickly proved correct when the café presented him with a bill of ₹16,400 for a single cold drink ordered by his date. When he protested, the staff escalated the demand to ₹50,000 and prevented him from leaving.
His quick-thinking friend, alerted by the shared location, immediately contacted the police. The swift police response led to a raid on the establishment, revealing an organized scam involving five women and three men who lured victims through dating apps. Investigations showed that four of the women hailed from Delhi and actively used these platforms to bait targets. Once inside the cafe, victims were confronted with inflated bills and held against their will until they paid.
This incident highlights a concerning rise in dating scams targeting unsuspecting individuals through social media platforms. Authorities have since dismantled the operation, warning the public to remain vigilant about such fraudulent activities.
