Fog and Speed Overtaking Claim Lives in Yamuna Expressway Tragedy

A pre-dawn accident on the Yamuna Expressway in Aligarh, Uttar Pradesh, claimed five lives and left 15 injured when a truck attempting to overtake collided with a double-decker bus. The crash, occurring between 12:30 a.m. and 1:00 a.m. near Tappal, was exacerbated by heavy fog. The bus was en route from Delhi to Azamgarh when the tragedy struck.

The injured were immediately taken to Kailash Hospital in Jewar for treatment, and the truck involved was seized by authorities. A police investigation is underway to determine the precise cause of the incident, which highlights concerns over road safety in adverse weather conditions.

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath expressed his condolences to the bereaved families and directed district officials to ensure quality care for the injured. He also wished for their speedy recovery.

This incident underlines the dangers posed by reckless driving combined with poor visibility, prompting renewed calls for stricter safety protocols on major highways.
