Ghaziabad, October 28, 2024 — In a deeply disturbing incident that has sparked outrage across social media, a video has emerged showing a man mercilessly beating his girlfriend in full public view at a crowded petrol pump in Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh. The footage, which quickly went viral, has drawn criticism not only for the brutality of the assault but also for the bystanders’ inaction, as onlookers recorded the scene instead of intervening.

The altercation reportedly unfolded at a petrol station in Arthala, under the jurisdiction of Sahibabad Police Station, after a dispute between the man and his girlfriend escalated while they were refuelling their motorcycle. In the video, the man is seen violently throwing the woman to the ground, punching and kicking her repeatedly. Despite the presence of several witnesses, not one person stepped forward to help; instead, they passively observed or recorded the incident on their mobile phones.
The reason for the attack, as per preliminary reports, was a phone call the man received from another woman, allegedly triggering a confrontation. Police officials have confirmed that the couple had been in a relationship for five years and were cohabitating. Following the incident, authorities took swift notice of the viral video. “We are taking this matter seriously,” a police spokesperson from Sahibabad stated, adding that the accused has been apprehended and legal action is underway.
The incident has reignited debate over women’s safety in public spaces and the alarming apathy displayed by bystanders in such situations.
