Jaipur Police Arrests ‘Thief Bride’ for Conning Rich Men, Stealing Cash and Jewellery

Rajasthan Police have arrested a woman dubbed the “thief bride” for orchestrating elaborate scams targeting wealthy businessmen and professionals. The woman used matrimonial apps to connect with affluent men, eventually marrying them, only to disappear with cash and jewellery worth millions. In several cases, she later blackmailed the families by filing false legal complaints to extort further money.

A High-Stakes Heist Disguised as Marriage

The accused was apprehended in a raid conducted in Uttarakhand following months of investigation by Jaipur Police. Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Amit Kumar confirmed the arrest, revealing that the woman married a well-known jeweller from Jaipur after establishing contact through a matrimonial platform.

Within months of gaining the trust of her husband and in-laws, she absconded with cash and jewellery valued at Rs 36.5 lakh. Subsequent to her disappearance, she lodged false legal cases against the family in Dehradun, leveraging legal channels to demand further financial compensation.

Modus Operandi: Exploiting Matrimonial Apps

According to police investigations, the accused specifically targeted divorced or wealthy professionals. Her strategy involved initiating conversations on matrimonial apps, portraying herself as an ideal partner. Over time, she extracted sensitive information about her victims’ financial standing and assets.

Once married, she ingratiated herself with the family, staying for three to four months before fleeing with valuables. Victims who attempted to pursue legal action were met with fabricated domestic violence and harassment cases, forcing them to comply with her financial demands.

The Case that Exposed the Scam

The jeweller, whose complaint led to her arrest, recounted his ordeal to the police. After losing his first wife, he sought companionship through a matrimonial app. He connected with the accused, visited her in Dehradun, and eventually tied the knot in February last year.

His family welcomed her, unaware of the deception. By July 29, 2023, she had vanished with jewellery and cash, prompting the jeweller to file a police complaint. This case unraveled a larger network of similar cons, with police now suspecting her involvement in multiple scams across different states.

Legal Action and Public Warning

Police are continuing their investigation to uncover further victims. Authorities have urged anyone who may have encountered the accused or fallen victim to similar scams to come forward.

“This case serves as a warning to remain vigilant when engaging in relationships through matrimonial platforms,” DCP Amit Kumar said.

A Pattern of Deception

Further interrogation revealed that the accused employed the same strategy in previous marriages, targeting men in Jaipur, Delhi, and Mumbai. Her ability to manipulate the legal system allowed her to extort money repeatedly, highlighting gaps in matrimonial app security and the need for more stringent background checks.

The Jaipur Police have reassured the public that steps are being taken to prevent such incidents in the future, and matrimonial app companies are being advised to enhance user verification processes.
