Mumbai Cab Driver Fatally Stabbed in Front of Wife Over Minor Accident; Two Arrested

Mumbai witnessed a chilling murder in Govandi’s Shivaji Nagar, where a 35-year-old cab driver was stabbed to death in his own home following a minor accident. The attack, carried out by two brothers, unfolded in front of the victim’s wife, sparking outrage and calls for severe punishment.

Incident Details:
On December 21, Adil Talim Khan, a driver for Ola, was fatally attacked by Abdul Karil Shaikh (alias Dadu) and Mohammad Sharif Abbas Ali Shaikh (alias Papa), both scrap dealers from Govandi. The incident was triggered after Khan’s car accidentally collided with the motorcycle of one of the accused, resulting in injuries to the accused’s mother. The altercation escalated later that evening when the intoxicated brothers forcibly entered Khan’s home around 10:45 pm and attacked him.

Murder in Front of Wife:
Khan was repeatedly stabbed in the chest, stomach, and back. Despite the desperate pleas of his wife, Sabina Khan, the attackers showed no mercy. Sabina, who witnessed the brutal murder, has since demanded capital punishment for the perpetrators, underscoring the brutality of the crime.

Delayed Police Response:
In the aftermath, a neighbor made 16 distress calls to the Mumbai Police Control Room (dialing 100), but no immediate response followed. Police reportedly arrived over half an hour later, by which time Khan had succumbed to his injuries. The delay in police response has drawn widespread criticism, with the neighbor suggesting that timely intervention could have saved Khan’s life.

Legal Action:
The Shivaji Nagar police registered a case under sections 103(a) (punishment for murder), 332(a) (house-trespass to commit an offence), and 3(5) (common intention) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, along with provisions under the Maharashtra Police Act. Initially, both accused fled the scene but were subsequently apprehended by authorities.

Community Outrage and Demand for Justice:
The gruesome nature of the incident and the public murder of Khan have sparked public outrage, with residents and Khan’s family urging swift justice. Sabina Khan has called for the hanging of the accused, describing the attack as a calculated and cold-blooded murder.

This tragic case highlights ongoing concerns regarding public safety, delayed emergency response, and the need for stronger measures to prevent such acts of violence.
