In a surprising turn of events, ten students in Kerala accidentally walked into a Narcotics Department office in Adimaly, thinking it was a workshop. The students, who were on a school trip to Munnar, had sneaked out from a nearby hotel and intended to smoke ganja. They entered the building through the back door and asked for a matchbox, unaware they were speaking to narcotics officers.
Realizing their mistake after seeing the officers in uniform, the students attempted to flee but were quickly apprehended. During the search, authorities found five grams of marijuana and one gram of hashish oil on two of the students, both of whom now face legal proceedings under the Juvenile Justice Board. The remaining students, who were not carrying illegal substances, were counseled and sent back to their teachers.
The students had pooled their pocket money to purchase the ganja from a local peddler. The incident has raised concerns about youth involvement in drug use. The Narcotics Department, after seizing the contraband, filed a case against the students in possession, while their parents were called to take them home.
Legal proceedings are ongoing, and authorities hope this serves as a cautionary tale for students across the region.
