‘Miracle Baby’: Newborn Survives 50 Wounds, Animal Bites After Being Thrown Off Bridge in Uttar Pradesh

Kanpur, November 1, 2024 — Against all odds, a newborn baby boy thrown from a bridge in Hamirpur, Uttar Pradesh, has not only survived but has captured the hearts of hospital staff and the community. Named Krishna after being found on Janmashtami, this miracle baby endured 50 wounds and even animal bites before his remarkable recovery, leaving doctors and caregivers in awe.

In August, the seven-day-old child was discovered tangled in a tree near Rath in Hamirpur after being allegedly thrown from a bridge by his parents. Covered in wounds from the fall and bearing a severe animal bite on his back, the boy was found in critical condition and taken to the Hamirpur district hospital. From there, he was transferred to the renowned Lala Lajpat Rai Hospital in Kanpur, also known as Hallett Hospital, where a team of specialists took charge of his care.

Doctors initially feared for Krishna’s life, unsure if he could overcome such severe injuries. “He had wounds all over his tiny body,” said Dr. Sanjay Kala, Principal at Hallett Hospital. “It appeared he had been bitten by birds or possibly other animals. His wounds were so serious that touching him was painful, so nurses could only soothe him by singing or gently blowing on his wounds to relieve the pain.”

For nearly two months, the hospital staff worked tirelessly, providing him with round-the-clock care and affection. The nurses, who couldn’t bear to see him cry in pain, often sang lullabies to comfort him, forming a deep bond with the baby. “We named him Krishna,” a nurse shared. “Even though we couldn’t hold him initially, his courage and resilience left us all emotional and deeply attached.”

On October 24, after two months of intensive treatment, Krishna was discharged. His recovery brought tears to the eyes of the entire medical staff. “When he left, it was as if we were saying goodbye to one of our own,” said Dr. Kala, adding, “We all felt he deserved a chance at a safe and loving life, not abandonment.”

This miraculous story has not only drawn public attention but also sparked a conversation about the importance of safe alternatives for parents in crisis. Krishna’s story stands as a testament to the resilience of life and the compassion of those who work tirelessly to protect it.

The newborn has now been placed under the care of the Child Welfare Committee, with hopes that he will soon find a loving home that appreciates the strength he’s shown since day one.
