Mumbai’s Brave Young Heroes of Kandivli Fend Off Armed Chain-Snatcher

In a courageous act of selflessness, a group of children in Mumbai’s Kandivali area chased down a chain-snatcher attempting to rob a 10-year-old girl of her gold pendant. The young girl had been on a quick errand when the assailant, identified as 30-year-old Nitish Walmiki, tried to snatch her necklace. Upon hearing her cries for help, a nearby group of children rushed to her aid, armed only with sticks, and managed to chase the thief through the neighbourhood.

Despite the assailant pulling a knife to deter his young pursuers, they continued trailing him through several alleys, shouting “chor… chor…” to alert others in the area. Eventually, Walmiki escaped with the pendant, though he was later identified through CCTV footage and apprehended by police.

The Kandivli police, under DCP Anand Bhoite and Senior Police Inspector D Ganore, led the investigation, which revealed Walmiki’s history as a repeat offender with prior cases of chain-snatching. The stolen pendant has since been recovered, and Walmiki remains in custody as of Friday.

This incident highlights the bravery and quick-thinking of these young residents, who put their own safety aside to protect their community.
