PM Modi Congratulates Trump on “Historic Comeback” as U.S. President, Hails Strong Indo-U.S. Partnership

Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended congratulations to Donald Trump on his “historic election victory” in the United States 2024 Presidential Election. In a post shared on social media platform X, Modi expressed his enthusiasm for further strengthening Indo-US relations as Trump returns to the White House for a second non-consecutive term. Modi wrote, “Heartiest congratulations my friend @realDonaldTrump on your historic election victory.” He added that he looked forward to working together for global peace, stability, and prosperity, underscoring the enduring India-US Strategic Partnership.

Trump’s comeback is only the second instance in U.S. history of a president winning two non-consecutive terms, the last being Grover Cleveland in the late 19th century. Fox News reported that Trump secured 277 electoral votes, crossing the threshold of 270, with crucial wins in battleground states like Pennsylvania and Georgia. His campaign gained momentum in the later stages, pushing him past his opponent, Democrat Kamala Harris, in a closely watched race.

Addressing supporters in Florida, Trump, alongside his family and running mate J.D. Vance, celebrated what he called “the greatest political movement of all time.” Trump pledged to focus on a “strong, safe, and prosperous America” and highlighted his return to the presidency as a continuation of his initial vision. His win reflects significant Republican gains, with Fox News projecting at least 50 Senate seats for the GOP, bolstering their influence in Congress.

Modi and Trump share a well-documented friendship, reinforced by major events like “Howdy Modi!” in 2019 and “Namaste Trump” during Trump’s 2020 India visit, showcasing their diplomatic rapport. Modi’s message reflects optimism for renewing collaboration between the two nations as they work toward shared strategic goals in global governance and security.
