Navi Mumbai Crime Branch Unit 2 has apprehended a 35-year-old man, Shrikant Tiwari, for allegedly murdering Yaqub Khan, a 60-year-old scrap dealer from Panvel’s Vavanje village. The two men had reportedly known each other for over 15 years. According to police, a long-standing feud led to the fatal altercation, with Tiwari angered by Khan’s repeated derogatory remarks about his wife. The dispute reached a tragic climax when Tiwari allegedly stabbed Khan multiple times near Morbe Dam in Panvel, abandoning his body in the area.
The case unfolded when Khan’s family reported him missing on October 26, triggering a police search. Investigators traced Tiwari and Khan together in CCTV footage as they traveled on a scooter towards Morbe Dam. Suspicion heightened after the scooter was found abandoned nearby, and Khan’s body was discovered near the dam on November 2. Authorities tracked Tiwari across state lines, first to Madhya Pradesh and then to Uttar Pradesh, relying on human intelligence to locate him in Mungra Badshahpur, where he was ultimately arrested.
During interrogation, Tiwari reportedly confessed that he and Khan were on their way to view a plot of land that Khan was considering purchasing. An argument ensued when Khan allegedly insulted Tiwari’s wife, leading to the fatal attack. Following his arrest, Tiwari was remanded to police custody for five days for further investigation.
This tragic incident underscores the complexities of personal disputes and the lengths to which authorities must go to resolve criminal cases across state borders.
