In a dramatic turn of events, a 26-year-old man from Dadar Basti in Chhattisgarh’s Korba district climbed a 60-foot high-tension tower after his wife refused to give him Rs 500 to buy alcohol. The incident caused panic among locals and drew a large crowd as Karan, identified as the man involved, threatened to jump from the tower.
The episode began when Karan, reportedly intoxicated, demanded money from his wife, which she refused. Enraged, he climbed the high-tension tower, shouting threats of suicide. Concerned residents gathered below, trying to coax him down. Some even promised him the money or alcohol to calm him, but Karan’s unpredictable behavior left everyone on edge.
Karan’s mother rushed to the scene and pleaded with him to climb down, but this seemed to escalate his agitation. He climbed higher, prompting locals to call the Manikpur outpost police. Outpost in-charge Naveen Patel and his team arrived promptly, initiating negotiations. However, Karan’s erratic behavior made the situation precarious. At moments, he appeared willing to climb down, only to retreat back up the tower moments later.
After more than an hour of persuasion, the police managed to calm him and bring him down safely, much to the relief of the crowd. Officers later confirmed that Karan was under the influence of alcohol during the incident.
This was not the first time Karan’s drinking habits had caused trouble for his family. His relatives, visibly frustrated, revealed that his behavior often spirals out of control under the influence of alcohol. The authorities have taken note of his actions, emphasizing the dangerous implications of such reckless conduct.
The incident sheds light on the pressing issue of alcohol abuse and its impact on families and communities, sparking discussions about awareness and intervention to address such behavior.
