Minors Drag Traffic Cops for 20 Meters After Jumping Red Light in Delhi; FIR Filed.

In a shocking incident, two minors were apprehended by Delhi Police after allegedly dragging two traffic police officers along the bonnet of their car for 20 meters. The incident occurred on November 2 near Ber Sarai Market Road in Delhi, when ASI Pramod and Head Constable Shailesh were on duty at a traffic signal known for accidents. They had observed a car jumping the red light and attempted to stop it.

ASI Pramod described the harrowing experience, stating that after the officers signalled the vehicle to halt and requested the driver’s license, the driver tried to flee. In an attempt to prevent the car from escaping, Pramod stood in front of the vehicle, but the driver accelerated, dragging the officers for 20 meters. While Pramod suffered injuries to his head and back, Shailesh sustained knee injuries during the ordeal.

Delhi Police immediately filed an FIR under sections 109 (attempt to murder), 221, and 132 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). The car’s owner, Jai Bhagwan, was traced, and his two minor children were apprehended for their reckless actions. The police further indicated that the owner would face prosecution for allowing the minors to drive the car. DCP Surendra Choudhary noted that the incident showed a clear intent to harm, given the severity of the action.

Authorities have also taken action under the Motor Vehicles Act, ensuring accountability for the driver’s actions. While the officers have since recovered from their injuries, the incident has raised concerns about road safety and the accountability of vehicle owners who permit minors to drive unsupervised. The police have stressed the importance of stricter enforcement to prevent such incidents in the future
