At a rally in Thane, Union Minister Nitin Gadkari revealed plans to revolutionize Mumbai’s transportation infrastructure, proposing water taxis that could connect Navi Mumbai Airport to any part of Mumbai in just 17 minutes. The plan involves constructing jetties around the airport and leveraging sea routes to reduce congestion and pollution.
Gadkari also discussed amphibious seaplanes, which could operate on water bodies like Thane’s lakes, offering swift connectivity without the need for runways. He emphasized that the initiative awaits private investors to unlock its full potential.
Further enhancing transit, Gadkari proposed 18-meter-long electric buses capable of carrying 135 passengers with rapid 30-second charging, enabling a 40-kilometer range. These innovations align with his push for sustainable alternatives to fossil fuels, underscoring his commitment to green infrastructure.
Addressing broader traffic issues, Gadkari pointed out that the New Delhi-Mumbai Expressway and restrictions on freight vehicle movement in urban centers would further ease congestion between Mumbai and Pune.
In his address, he urged voters to prioritize infrastructure development over divisive politics, reaffirming the government’s focus on innovative, growth-driven solutions for urban challenges.
