Why Delhi-NCR Is Under GRAP Stage IV and What It Means-

Delhi-NCR implemented Stage IV of the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) as air quality plummeted to the ‘Severe+’ category on Sunday night, with an AQI of 441. This stage, the highest level of pollution response, was activated to mitigate worsening pollution caused by stagnant winds, heavy fog, and unfavorable meteorological conditions.

What Is Restricted Under GRAP Stage IV?

  1. Vehicle Bans: Entry of non-essential diesel vehicles and BS-IV diesel trucks is prohibited.
  2. Construction Halt: All construction, including public projects like highways and pipelines, is stopped.
  3. Education Changes: Authorities may shift classes VI to IX and XI to online modes.
  4. Workforce Adjustments: Offices may operate at 50% capacity or implement work-from-home policies.

These emergency measures aim to curb emissions while urging residents, especially vulnerable groups, to remain indoors. AQI improvement will depend on weather conditions in the coming days.
