Former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah urged all parties to respect the people’s mandate following the 2024 assembly election results. His party, the Jammu and Kashmir National Conference (NC), is currently leading in 46 seats, surpassing the majority needed to form the government.
Speaking to reporters in Srinagar, Abdullah highlighted the need for transparency in the electoral process. “If the people’s mandate is against the BJP, they shouldn’t pull off any tricks,” he stated, warning against any potential “jugaad” or manipulation.
Omar Abdullah is contesting from two constituencies—Ganderbal and Budgam—and is reportedly leading in both. Ganderbal has historically been a stronghold for the Abdullah family, with Omar having previously won the seat in 2008.
Expressing optimism about his party’s performance, Abdullah said, “The decision has been made by the voters of Jammu and Kashmir, and we will know the outcome by this afternoon.” He also discussed his party’s alliance with Congress and indicated that the final results will determine their next steps.
Regarding the nomination of five MLAs by the Lieutenant Governor, Abdullah emphasized that the administration should respect the advice of the elected government.
