In a tragic incident in Jammu and Kashmir’s Baramulla, two Indian Army soldiers and two civilian porters were killed following a terrorist attack on an army vehicle on October 24. The attack, which took place in Baramulla’s Butapathri region, also left one soldier and another porter injured, both of whom are receiving treatment.
The Chinar Corps of the Indian Army confirmed on social media platform X that a brief exchange of fire occurred between army personnel and terrorists. Search operations are currently underway in the area as security forces aim to neutralize any remaining threats.
This recent assault comes shortly after another incident in Pulwama’s Batgund Tral area, where a labourer from Uttar Pradesh, Pritam Singh, was shot and injured by terrorists the same day. Just four days earlier, on October 20, six construction workers and a doctor were killed in an attack on a housing camp in Ganderbal, where they had been working on a tunnel construction project along the Srinagar-Leh national highway.
Former Deputy Chief Minister and BJP leader Kavinder Gupta condemned the Baramulla attack, calling it a “cowardly act” and attributing it to Pakistan-sponsored terrorism. He expressed concern for the safety of civilians and security personnel, emphasizing that while counter-terror operations under a “zero-tolerance” policy have proven effective, vigilance remains critical to prevent similar incidents.
This increase in terrorist attacks highlights an ongoing challenge in securing vital infrastructure projects and protecting both local and migrant workers contributing to the Union Territory’s development.
